Lots of Pacers & friends enjoyed the
Briar Creek 10K, in Sylvania, GA, 9/10/05.
Weather was a bit cooler than normal that day,
which was a welcome relief. This always well organized race, hosted by the
Screven Co. Chamber of Commerce, takes you through downtown Sylvania and then
loops runners around town. Some subtle (?) hills keep this course interesting
and there's plenty of water along the course. The course is USATF certified, and
awards (medals and CASH prizes) are always quickly calculated and given out.
A link to the Briar Creek 10K results with pictures taken by race folks, along
with some pictures we took are all located at our "Race Results" link at
www.StatesboroPacers.com. Michelle LaFleur won the race with a time of
37:04. Kathy Wiegand placed 4th overall (42:04), followed by Danny Gleason in
5th place (42:12). Soon after Brenda Cooter, Pam Roesel, Jacob Cooter, Micah
Ward, Theresa Proctor (her 1st 10K!), Debbie Gleason, Don Borowski, Michele
Taylor, Marie Ange Smith, Brigitte Smith, and Catherine Ward crossed the finish
line! I think everyone received some type of award and the top finishers
received CASH prizes!! After the race, several of us enjoyed a country
breakfast and great conversation at one of the local eateries in downtown
Sylvania. This followed by watching two of our furry companions perform "great
pet tricks!" (read, these guys were much too bright for "stupid" pet tricks).
Check out their pics, too, at this site.
Several of us commented on race day, that there are very few 10K races around, so we really appreciate having this race close by. We encourage more runners to add this to their list of "must run" races.
We thank Nancy Edenfield, race director and executive director of the Screven County Chamber of Commerce for including our Hoofin' for Habitat race applications in all of their Briar Creek 10K race packets!
